I have been here over a month now and most of my time walking to and from
either the chow and work or my room and work is usually spent either looking
down to avoid to occasional rock trying to jump out and break an ankle, or
the never ending aircraft flying to or from their unknown destinations.
Well the other night I began my trek to my room just after sunset and just
as I was admiring the almost full, orange moon rising above the horizon, I
realized that I have not seen a single cloud since I have been here. Now I
have seen days in Nevada where there weren't clouds, but never for an extended
period of time such as this. It is uncanny that there hasn't been even a
wisp of moisture in the air that could even be mistaken for a cloud. I
think this is truly the land that god forgot. I really don't understand how
people could purposely live out here. I now think I understand why the
locals choose a nomadic life. They are either in constant search for water
and food, or in a constant search for a lesser hell. It totally puts into
perspective the lives we strive for and take for granted.
Well that is my thought of the day, I love you and miss you terribly and
can't wait to wake up and share a coffee and conversation with you again,
Forever yours,
Hoss
